Supporting Future Nurses in Barrhead
The Dr. B. Bose Nursing Scholarship is awarded annually to graduates of Barrhead Composite High School (BCHS) who are currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed at least one year of post-secondary studies. This scholarship is a proud initiative of the Barrhead Healthcare Centre Auxiliary, recognizing students who are both academically dedicated and community-minded.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, candidates must:
- Be a BCHS graduate enrolled in a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Have completed at least one year of post-secondary nursing education.
- Demonstrate community involvement and a strong work ethic.
Applicants must submit:
- A personal letter of support.
- One professional reference letter.
Honoring a Legacy of Care: Dr. Bireswar Bose
Dr. Bireswar Bose was more than a gifted surgeon—he was a visionary, a lifelong learner, and a mentor who inspired generations of healthcare professionals. His career in Barrhead spanned over three decades, from 1969 to his retirement in 2002. Originally trained in Calcutta, India, Dr. Bose continued his medical education and surgical training in England (earning Fellowships in both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh), and in the United States at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.
Dr. Bose moved to Barrhead in 1970 with his wife, Dr. Anita Roy, a respected anesthesiologist. Together, they contributed immensely to the local healthcare system. Dr. Bose authored 29 scientific articles and presented his research internationally—testament to his passion for continuous learning.
His enduring respect for nurses and allied healthcare professionals led to the creation of this scholarship. Through a generous bequest, Dr. Bose entrusted the Barrhead Healthcare Centre Auxiliary to support future nurses and continue his legacy of compassionate care and educational excellence.

The Nursing Scholarship application can be downloaded from the link below or picked up from the Admin Office at the Barrhead Healthcare Centre.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR 2025 HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO JULY 15
All applications must be received by the Barrhead Healthcare Centre Auxiliary by June 30th of the calendar year you are applying for.
