We have such a generous community and they have proven it every year, not just at Christmas time when we have the Tree of Hope campaign, but throughout the entire year. That’s why we are able to get the extra equipment that we have at our site and for that reason, we are very fortunate to have what we have in our building, for our rural community.
Impact update: Comfort when it matters most
On June 2, 2017, the Barrhead Healthcare Centre’s palliative care unit received two new specialty beds purchased through the community’s Tree of Hope giving—plus an extraordinary boost from the Wallace family, whose $11,000 memorial gift helped close the gap.
What the beds do
-
Pressure-redistributing air mattresses gently reposition patients to protect skin and ease discomfort.
-
One-touch sit-to-upright support helps when mobility is limited, reducing strain on patients and caregivers.
Final purchase price: ~$18,000 per bed.
(Units were worth every penny—older beds simply couldn’t provide these features.)
Why this matters
Palliative rooms are where families spend precious time together. These beds provide dignity, comfort, and safer care at the end of life.
With thanks: To every Tree of Hope donor, and to the Wallace family for their generous memorial gift in honor of Lillian.
